International Undergraduate Admissions

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES
Residents of foreign countries who wish to enter the university should apply to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions well in advance of the semester they plan to attend. Please note that an international student is any degree-seeking student holding a non-immigrant student visa.
All admission requirements are to be completed a minimum of three months prior to the beginning of the semester. In the case of extenuating circumstances, exceptions to this timeline may be considered on an individual basis.
Keep in mind that your transcripts must be evaluated by an independent credential evaluation agency before being considered for admission.
An international student is any degree-seeking student holding a non-immigrant visa or graduating from a non-U.S. high school. Residents of foreign countries who wish to enter the University should submit their application for admission 3 months in advance of the semester they plan to attend. (Graduate students should apply to the Graduate School.)
Undergraduate admission to East Texas A&M is based on any one of the following criteria:
Freshman (defined as a first-time new in college following high school graduation and must submit official high school transcripts):
- Rank in the top 30% of your graduating class or
- Have a composite ACT score of 21 or higher or
- Have a minimum combined SAT of 1060 or higher
Use the East Texas A&M codes 4088 (ACT) and 6188 (SAT) to submit your scores on act.org or collegeboard.org.
- Completion of a recommended high school curriculum, which includes:
- English Language Arts (4 credits)
- Mathematics (4 credits)
- Science (4 credits)
- Social Studies (4 credits)
Transfer defined as having attended a regionally accredited college or university after high school (excluding the summer immediately following the high school graduation date), regardless of the number of credit hours completed. Applicants must submit official transcript(s) from all previously attended institutions:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on all transferable college coursework.
Students transferring with less than 12 transferable credit hours must qualify for admission based on the policy for Freshman Admission.
All proof of English proficiency must be submitted directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the testing agency or institution. If you have taken the IELTS or TOEFL tests, you can upload your unofficial scores to your Applicant Portal, and we can verify them. All other scores or documents must be sent to [email protected] by the institution or testing agency.

International students may be eligible for a TOEFL/IELTS waiver based on the following criteria:
- Completion of the Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP) in an advanced-level program offered by the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC)
- Completed a minimum of one year of study in a Texas public high school with the completion of English III or English IV (including Advance Placement/AP) with a grade of “B” or better.
- Completed entire formal education at the secondary or postsecondary level in the following countries:

- Students who have completed at least 12 transferrable semester credit hours AND earned a grade of “C” or better in ENG 1301 US-College Reading & Writing and ENG 1302 GLB/US-Written Argument/Research from an accredited U.S. college or university, or institution of higher education in one of the countries listed as exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS.
- Students who have obtained one of the following foreign high school diplomas/tests/scores:

Applicants from Puerto Rico, where Spanish is the primary language for instruction at the secondary or postsecondary level, must submit a TOEFL or equivalent.
All international undergraduate students applying to East Texas A&M must complete the freshman or transfer Undergraduate Admission application.

As an international student, you must show proof of successful completion of a course equivalent to that required for a U.S. citizen. An independent credential evaluation agency must evaluate your international transcript, and the evaluation report must be submitted directly by the agency to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. We do not accept unofficial evaluations submitted by students.

The senior/higher secondary certificate with equivalency details related to cumulative grade point average based on a 4.0 U.S. equivalent grading scale and or class ranking system may be submitted for review. If pending senior/higher secondary semesters are in progress, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will accept an unofficial transcript for admission purposes only. All final official transcripts and certificates are required before course enrollment is permitted. Mail final official transcripts/certificates in a sealed envelope or send them electronically directly from the senior/higher secondary school. Undergraduate admissions will not process transcripts emailed by the student of any other person not directly employed by the school as official.

All F-1 and J-1 undergraduate international students must complete a Financial Statement form to demonstrate financial support for all educational expenses.
To receive an I-20 form, students must demonstrate financial support for their educational experiences and proof of private funds or government-sponsored funds. These funds must support a student's ability to pay tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies and health insurance expenses.
A completed financial statement form is required to demonstrate financial support for educational expenses. Updated form coming soon.
